Yggdrasil, the tree and the center of the norse cosmology, was inhabited by many creatures. At the top was perched an eagle guarding the tree, while at the bottom a dragon gnawed at the trees roots. A squirrel continuously scurried up and down the tree carrying insulting messages back and forth between the dragon and the eagle.
